Surprise Surgery

What a busy time I've had of late. Paid a visit to an orthopaedic surgeon on Wednesday last week only to be told I was to have surgery on Friday. Now that all came around too quickly. With our hospital waiting lists the way they are I definitely wasn't meant to get in that soon. It was all too quick for my liking. With my husband in the States, I had to wait for him to ring me the following day. He told me to go ahead with it. A very busy Friday for me as I had to pick him up from the Station after he caught the air train from the airport, complete and submit an submission for work and then be at the hospital by 11:00am.
All went well and I am home recouperating now. In 8 to 12 weeks I should be pain-free and able to scrap up a storm.

Blind Scrap

What a fun night we had on Sunday putting Terri through the hoops running her first blind scrap as a member of Art's DT. She did a fabulous job even though Kym tried her darndest to distract us all with pictures of hot firemen.

I used Crate Papers from the Brook Collection and co-ordinating sticker range. I made the lollipop flowers from the pp used in the LO and used Prima leaves to finish it off. The photo is of my daughter enjoying her brother's birthday dinner at the golf club.

March Cyber Crop

Sorry I haven't been here for while. I've been flat out like a lizard on a log but I have been working quietly behind the scenes and managed to get the challenges done for the recent Cyber Crop at Artistic Document.

For Terri's challenge we had to make a card using Autumn tones, distressing and flowers/ foliage.

The criteria for the challenge set by our lovely DT member Kym included Autunm tones, Leaves, 1 matted photo, Buttons and Chipboard alphas.

Our fearless leader Marie, set us the challenge to scrap Easter in Autumn as that when it falls in the Land of Oz. The criteria: Only Autumn Tones {and i don't mean get Toni to do it for you}, Must be about Easter - you can do a LO for this years photos and leave the photo's off if you need to, or add some photos from previous years .... I chose to use photos from last year as my gorgeous grandson followed the Bunny Trail.

One of our new DT members (from across the Tasman) set us an OTP challenge. "For all those people that have Easter Egg hunts for their children, you need something to collect your stash in, so that's my challenge - to create something to collect all your Easter Eggs in."

Another OTP (also set by Kym) - this time a book mark.

Magical Musical Tour - Rock'n'Roll

Over at Artistic Document we are into the third week of our Magical Mystery Tour the theme of which is Rock'n'Roll.

This is my take on the challenge using photos taken at Williams on the historic Route 66 enroute to the Grand Canyon in September 2009.

For this challenge our LOs have to be inspired by the 1950s and good ol' rock and roll.
The criteria are:
* black with one colour but you can use as many shades of that colour as you wish
* small amounts of white are allowed if necessary
* brads
* retro font
* some plastic/vinyl embellies

The layout did not need to be 1950s style, or use 1950s photos.

Terri's March Challenge

One of our Monthly challenges over at Art was to whitewash our paper. This is a new technique for me and I baulked at using it. But it is really quite simple to do. I have used the Peachy Keen collection by Kaiser for this layout. The flowers were cut from patterned paper and mounted on 3D tape. We also had to use ribbon/lace/fiber and stitching (real/fake/rubon)

St Patrick's Day ATC's - Take 2

I decided to do a second lot of cards for this swap. I think I like these ones better than the first lot. He is such a cute little Leprechaun.

Manually Dgitised Lace

I finally got on with the next module for my Cert III in Digitising - Module 8 (Creating manually digitised lace). This is very time consuming & hard on the eyes & neck as each stitch for the mesh part of the lace has to be created individually. But I finally finished it ready for assessment. I had made lots of notes ready to answer the theory side of the assessment and scanned front and back images of the sewn piece ready to upload to the College Website only to find they have disabled the upload area.
Not happy at all. Must investigate further.

Cuttlebug Cards

Today I went to a class at the local scrapbook shop and learned a few more techniques to use with the Cuttlebug. We made three lovely cards using embossing folders and butterfly die cuts.

March Challenges

I have been busy the last couple of days working on the challenges for the month from Artistic Document.

The sketch challenge for this month was set by our fabulous DT member, Kym. I had fun with this one as I was able to utilise some of the photos from our trip to the Grand Canyon last September. I have used Creative Memories Travel paper for the background, strips and photo mats. The bird and other embellishments are from the Kaiser Peachy Keen collection while the journalling block is from the Kaiser Road Trip collection.

The colour challenge (also set by Kym) was to work with Cream & Black so this is my layout. I used Anna Griffin floral patterned paper. The flowers are by Prima. I also used some cream ricrac braid.

This challenge was set by our wonderful DT member and fearless leader, Marie. We had to use tone-on-tone cardstock and a slightly darker toned cardstock. Embellishments could only be punched for this challenge. We also had to use a stamped image and colour it using the colours from the photo.

Magical Musical Tour - SALSA

The Magical Musical Tour has begun over at Artistic Document. The first challenge was 'the SALSA' The criteria were bright colours, paint, ruffled ribbon/paper and glitz. This is my take on the challenge.
I painted the chipboard letters then used Fire Cracker Red Glitter & Jewelled Gold Transparent embossing powder to give them some sparkle. The frangipani flowers (courtesy of Scrapbook Flair) were printed on card, cut out & then embossed with Jewelled Gold and a Kaiser Rhinestone placed in the centre. The Chippie tag was painted & decorated. I used yellow material to create the ruffle.
